Update on Sonny

Surgery has been a success so far.  They did find some material around the vertebrae that was sent off to the lab. We will all keep our  keep fingers crossed that it is nothing bad.  He is walking with help and pottying on his own.  We are still in dire need of donations to cover the cost of the surgery.

We have a Lhasa that we have had in rescue for a couple of years.  He came to us with heartworms. There was a couple that fell in love with him in the beginning and were going to foster him through treatment.  They had him a couple of weeks and were out of town with him when he woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain.  They came back and he went to Hillcrest and they found a disc problem, but did not think at that point he needed surgery – just cage rest.

The couple took him back home…and put him in a crate pushed up against a $400.00 comforter. Who puts a bored, hurt, male dog in a crate up against any comforter?  Sonny got bored and pulled the comforter in the crate and tore it up.  The lady called us crying over the comforter.

So, he had to leave that day – all the love they felt went out the window.  He went to a temporary home who would not crate him and within a week, Sonny could not walk at all.  He was at Hillcrest about a month before we found a foster who could take him in and help him go to the bathroom and all that the now dire situation entailed.  He has been doing so good for the last year!  Now, he is always in pain, and he is dragging his back legs.  Dr. Ledbury at Hillcrest is doing surgery May 7th and we are in desperate need of donations to cover the surgery.  It could not wait until we actually had the money, but we need to take care of the bill immediately.  The estimated cost to help Sonny is about $2000.00.  Any donation, no matter how small, would be appreciated.  You can either call and donate straight to Hillcrest to go on Sonny’s bill or paypal us and we will send you a donation form for your taxes.  Checks could also be sent to GAPR, P.O. Box 1751, Collierville, TN  38027.

Thank You All For Supporting What We Do!
