Harley is a four year old Corgi mix that we adopted out two years ago.
His owner died about a year and a half ago and his wife almost
returned him then as she was a little overwhelmed. But she continued
to take care of him until she had to move in with her daughter and she
could not take Harley. She found a home for him with a friend, but
that fell through also. So, Harley was returned a couple of weeks ago
to his former foster home. They were happy to have him back as he is
a great little guy with a wonderful personality. Sunday morning about
4:30 am he woke his foster parents up screaming in pain. He could not
move his back. They rushed him to Animal Emergency where it was
determined he had a ruptured disc. The emergency room bill alone was
about $800.00 to keep him stable until Monday morning. He was taken
to Med Vets this morning and had to have emergency surgery. The
estimated cost of the surgery is $3500.00. We have just had a rash of
medical bill for the past few months and really are in need of
donations for the medical bills on Harley. The second picture is
right after he was taken off the IV's at the emergency clinic. He
cannot move and look at how happy he is. We have to try to save this
little guy!
PLEASE HELP US HELP HIM!
BABER
Baber is a 5-month old female terrier that was found by a
Good Samaritan in Rodney Baber Park. This sweet 22 lb. girl has been
carrying around an umbilical hernia since birth which is now the size of a
cantaloupe. Guardian Angel Pet Rescue has had the hernia assessed by
several veterinarians and it has been found that only a Board Certified
Veterinarian can handle this surgery. The surgery calls for mesh to be used
in repairing the hernia. The cost of the surgery will be $2000.00.
You
can help us help her. Make a donation today!!
Baber sends her thanks to all!
Update
Monday, August 25, 2008 12:12:36 AM
Baber is doing very well. She really wants to run,
play, jump onto the furniture and romp with the other dogs in her foster
home. She has to stay in her crate to keep her quiet. Baber is
walked on a leash to potty, so she
does not start running and jumping. She will be on pain medicine
& antibiotics until the 28th.
She is completely wrapped around her belly and onto her back. This not
only protects her incision site, but also helps
everything heal the way it should. The foster family said she is a
real love bug.
Update
Sunday
8/17/08 10:30 a.m.
Baber is resting comfortable. She is on pain medicine and antibiotics.
The
bag, which originally held her insides, is draining well. She will
receive
her next pain meds about noon and will be taken outside to potty.
No idea at this time when she can leave the clinic.
Update
Friday
8/15/2008 1:15 p.m.
Dr. Royal just called, it is 1:15 p.m. Friday and the surgery
on Baber is
almost complete. She tolerated the surgery well. They were able
to close
the opening up with moving some muscle around and no mesh. She will
have a
drain with a suction bulb to keep fluid from building up in the bag which
held all of her insides. Depending on how soon the suction drain can
be
removed she should be home by Tuesday or Wednesday. Then she must be
keep
quit for a couple of weeks after that. She will be sore because her
abdominal cavity did not grow to hold all the organs and tissue which was in
the hanging bag. It was a little tight, but he said it will stretch as
she
grows.

Petra and her husband, Joe, have been
members of GAPR since 2003. What would
we do without the Vaughn’s? In addition
to fostering, they have worn many hats
for the rescue. They are responsible
for picking up and distributing food,
litter and treats for us from the
wonderful couple who go around and
collect these items from the various
stores that donate. They are always
there to help in any capacity they are
needed at our annual 5K Race. Petra and
Joe always cover a large percentage of
the spots when we help out at the Mike
Rose Soccer Field. This past winter,
they organized a fundraiser for us at
the TN Comedy Club. Everyone that came
out for that had a great time! Petra,
along with Stephanie Chozen,
single-handedly organizes and runs the
adoption events twice per month at the
Germantown Petco location. Joe assists
with the updating of our website. In
recent months, Petra and Joe have become
our HEROES in the saving of puppies with
various diseases including Parvo,
Giardia and Coccidia. They have spent
many sleepless nights giving them fluids
and medicines to keep them alive until
they can fight the diseases on their
own. In the past week they have become
bottle-feeding parents also – taking the
puppies to work with them.
CONGRATULATIONS to this wonderful
couple for all their special work for
the animals!!!

LOSES AN ANGEL
DEBORAH
STEVENSON OSSWALD, 54, died Sunday,
January 13, 2008 after a long and
courageous battle with breast cancer.
Memorial services were held at St.
Mary's Catholic Church located at 155
Market Avenue on Wednesday, January 16
at 10 a.m. Debbie grew up in Salt Lake
City with her loving parents, Bill and
Mary Lee Stevenson, and four supportive
siblings, Donald, Susan, Cynthia, and
Richard. On October 11, 1986, she
married the love of her life, Bob
"Oz" Osswald. In her career,
she was highly successful as the
creative director in advertising at
AutoZone; however, her passion was
always animal rescue. She was at the
forefront battling for abandoned, abused
and neglected animals. As a major
contributor to Guardian Angel Pet
Rescue, she was the force behind their
annual fundraising run working
tirelessly for those four-legged friends
who cannot speak for themselves. Debbie
also felt passionately about the fight
to cure breast cancer and participated
annually in the Susan G. Komen Race for
the Cure. Whatever the endeavor, Debbie
always brought tenacity and passion to
what she did, often accomplishing what
seemed impossible. Her strong character,
sense of humor and caring nature defined
who she was and who we all strive to be
now that she is gone. In short, Debbie
loved her husband dearly, often smiling
and rolling her eyes when he made us all
laugh. She also loved her friends and
has always been the rock that kept us
strong. The world is a better place
because of Debbie Osswald, and we will
all miss her. Oz wants to say a special
thank you to the entire staff of the
West Clinic for their love and
compassion throughout Debbie's battle
with cancer and a thank you to all at
Germantown Methodist Hospital for their
support in her final days. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests
contributions to: Guardian Angel Pet
Rescue, P.O. Box 280513, Memphis, TN
